Contractor software · a practical comparison
FREEDOM vs Buildertrend: everyday operations or a broader building suite?
Choose around the project responsibilities you need to connect—from tomorrow’s crew schedule to homeowner decisions and financial records.
Which responsibilities should your platform carry?
FREEDOM connects daily operations while you keep separate financial tools. Buildertrend combines project, sales, client and financial management in a broader building platform. If you need that full building workflow, the additional scope can be the reason to choose it.

| Decision | FREEDOM approach | Buildertrend evaluation |
|---|---|---|
| Tomorrow’s work | Tasks, schedules, responsibilities and project context. | Evaluate construction scheduling and project planning. |
| Field visibility | Project-linked time, documents and operational history. | Review time clock, daily logs and field collaboration. |
| Homeowner decisions | Keep customer context; financial approvals stay in specialist tools. | Review selections, change orders and client workflows. |
| Financial control | Use separate estimating, invoicing and accounting software. | Evaluate the financial-management workflow with your team. |
Buildertrend’s project-management documentation describes its construction workflow. Use the demo to verify each responsibility your office, field team and clients need to share.
Get a quote you can actually compare.
Buildertrend’s current pricing page offers a custom quote and lists unlimited users and projects. A historical plan price from another website is not a reliable current quotation. Ask for the full commitment and the capabilities included in your offer.
FREEDOM is $89/month for up to 10 users; additional users cost $5/user/month. That buys an operating workspace, not feature equivalence with Buildertrend. Retained estimating, accounting and other specialist subscriptions still contribute to total cost.
- State the workflow. Include homeowner approvals, field reporting and any financial requirements, not just your headcount.
- Confirm the commercial terms. Ask about payment schedule, term, onboarding, support and any additional charges rather than assuming them.
- Compare responsibility. Mark what each platform handles and what stays elsewhere.
- Review an exit. Confirm access to records and exports before making a commitment.

When the owner’s operating picture is the gap.
Consider FREEDOM when your daily friction is connecting the jobs, people and details across the business. Start with the Owner’s Command Center, follow a priority into its project, check the schedule and review equipment availability. Owners with multiple businesses can keep workspaces distinct while seeing supported priorities together.

Verify the crew and project workflow against your own requirements. A tool that organizes labor hours does not therefore calculate financial job costs.
When to keep a broader building suite.
If your process depends on connected selections, customer approvals and financial records, evaluate Buildertrend on that complete process. Do not replace it with FREEDOM expecting estimating, invoices, payroll or accounting to appear inside the app. FREEDOM does not integrate with QuickBooks.
Before moving anything, identify the system of record for each contract, estimate, approval and invoice. Keep historical records accessible. This comparison does not promise a Buildertrend import, a migration service or financial synchronization.
Two questions that settle the shortlist.
Do we need a building suite or an operations workspace?
If connected client and financial processes are the central need, start with the broader suite. If separate specialist tools already meet those needs, evaluate whether FREEDOM connects the operating work you are missing.
Can we demonstrate the handoffs?
Walk one project through scheduling, a crew shift and a scope change. Name the person and tool responsible at each step. A low subscription price is not a win if the required process is left unowned.
